In addition to Stockholm and Barcelona, Cologne was the first German Lighthouse City in the EU Horizon 2020 research project GrowSmarter. The aim of the project is to reduce particulate matter pollution and energy consumption as well as to contribute to sustainable mobility. During a study visit on 26th to 27th April 2017, the local GrowSmarter team presented all measures that have been realised so far in the Lighthouse City within GrowSmarter.
Hamburg as new German Lighthouse City seized the chance to learn about Cologne’s experiences and approaches. The Hamburg mySMARTLife team participated in the SmartCity Conference Cologne, a hackathon on environmental and sensor technologies, a bike tour with rental bicycles to the demo site and a guided tour through the area, the visit to a mobility station that links rental bikes, electric vehicles and the e-bus and a tour of the demonstration data centre Cologne Chorweiler. The partners did also meet with the local GrowSmarter coordinator for an informal exchange on experiences.
