On 22nd September 2021, mySMARTLife coordinator CARTIF introduced the replication plans defined in mySMARTLife as well as the approach followed for their development in a webinar organised by MAtchUP project titled “Replication and business models for sustainable cities”.
The webinar showed how business models can facilitate and increase the replication potential of smart cities and nature-based solutions in cities as well as the methods and tools used in urban planning.
The replication speech for smart city technologies was divided into two parts. First, methodologies were presented that are applied in the cities of mySMARTLife and MAtchUP, both funded under the same call of the H2020 programme, to define the upscaling and replication plans of the technologies tested. The second part focused on the smart solutions selected in both projects for replication in the short and medium term.
“Holistic urban planning methods are keys for the energy transition of municipalities. Smart City solutions can be helpful in achieving sustainable and climate neutral cities. Tested integrated urban planning methods can support the decision-making processes of municipalities and facilitate their replicability”, says Ana Quijano Pedrosa, CARTIF Technology Centre, representing the mySMARTLife project.
Methods applied in the cities involved in mySMARTLife and MAtchUP are quite similar and can help cities in the identification of their needs and challenges as well as in the selection of the most suitable solutions that can be implemented to reach the city targets. The webinar showed the actions included in the replication plans of the cited projects and the status of the actions selected, some of them already implemented in mySMARTLife follower cities.
Regarding nature-based solutions, the webinar continued with the methodology adopted in the project Urban Green UP to study the replicability of the demonstrated solutions in the project and the factors that influence the scaling up.
Finally, the webinar concluded with the methodology applied in MAtchUP and Urban Green UP to evaluate the business models in order to transfer this knowledge to other cities that intend to define their Strategic Urban Plans.
