EnergieNetz Hamburg builds solar plant on sports centre’s roof

mySMARTLife partner EnergieNetz Hamburg (ENH), a renewable energy cooperative, will provide solar energy for the new sports centre „Hoheluft“ of the gymnastics federation ETV. ENH is financing and building the solar plant with a peak power of 30 kilowatts on the green roof of the sports centre and will also assure its operation. The locally produced solar power will be completely used on-site. The solar plant will produce 27,000 kilowatt hours of power per year saving about 11 tons of CO2 per year compared to the German energy mix.

The solar plant is planned and completely financed by ENH. The gymnastics federation ETV buys the generated solar power for a period of 20 years for a fixed price from ENH to safeguard against rising energy prices. A special feature of this project is that the solar plant is installed on a green roof. Special substructures ensure a secure and plant-friendly installation. Thanks to the plants, evaporation increases and results in a cooling effect that makes the modules work more efficiently. Matthias Ederhof, member of the board of EnergieNetz Hamburg, is pleased that ENH can implement another project in connection with mySMARTLife with this innovative solar plant.

The roofs of many gymnasiums are offering enough space to produce solar power and solar heat. With the energy produced locally, sports centres are able to safeguard against rising energy and heat costs and contribute to climate protection and energy transition.

ENH plans, finances and operates renewable energy plants in the Hamburg metropolitan region such as PV roof systems, local heat networks and a hydropower plant. The cooperative has about 300 members. Apart from its economic activities, EnergieNetz Hamburg aims to promote a sustainable, democratic and climate-friendly energy supply.
