Accelerating skillsets for climate neutrality - Bydgoszcz contributes to EU Week of Regions & Cities

Natalia Majewska, mySMARTLife Lead in Bydgoszcz, Poland participated in the EU Regions “participatory lab” dedicated to positive energy districts (PEDs) and innovation ecosystems on 12 October 2021 during the European Week of Regions and Cities.

Although Bydgoszcz does not have PEDs yet, the presentation showed the long path that the city has taken from inventory of greenhouse gas emissions in 2010 to the development of an Energy Management Office and activities taken with a view to monitoring and saving energy.

The participatory lab tapped into expertise and experience of smart city experts accelerating role out in Italy, Ukraine, Finland, Poland and further countries making smart and sustainable cities a reality. It has taken place under the moderation of Eurocities and with input from the EU Smart Cities Marketplace replication working group which represents over 120 metropolitan areas in Europe.

The session looked at the connections, competences and investment capital we need to make climate neutrality happen and tackled issues on a transformative stakeholder dialogue in Italy presented by Cristina Pellegrini, new catalyst organisations in Ukraine by Maksym Terletsky, accelerating skillsets by Natalia Majewska in Poland and punching above your weight to attract investment by Mika Hakosalo in Finland.
